During an Oct. 28 keynote speech at the Center for American Progress in Washington, NASA Administrator Charlie Bolden discussed the progress achieved in the journey to Mars and the future trajectory for upcoming administrations and policy makers. NASA's recent release of the report titled "Journey to Mars: Pioneering Next Steps in Space Exploration" details its phased approach to reach Mars. This plan involves initial technology demonstrations and research conducted on the International Space Station, followed by the development of hardware and procedures within the moon's proving ground. Ultimately, this preparation will pave the way for sending humans to the Red Planet. Additionally, significant events include a spacewalk at the space station, a new space record set by Kelly, a workshop on Mars landing sites and exploration zones, and an impactful "deep dive" flyby conducted by Cassini spacecraft.
