On Monday, it was declared by the Indian government that India and the United Arab Emirates have initiated trade using their own local currencies.

The significant trade saw India's top refiner, Indian Oil Corp (IOC.NS), making payment in rupees for a shipment of a million barrels of oil, acquired from the UAE's Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC). The details of this were shared in a statement released by the Indian embassy in the UAE.

Another development leading to this was a transaction involving the sale of 25 kg of gold, worth around 128.4 million rupees ($1.54 million), by a UAE gold exporter to a buyer in India.

This groundbreaking transaction, which made use of the Indian rupee and the UAE dirham, marks a substantial change in the way international trade is conducted. The origin of this shift can be traced back to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that was reached when Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the UAE on July 15.

Moreover, India is actively looking into the possibility of setting up similar trade agreements in local currencies with various other countries. The goal of this effort is to boost exports, particularly at a time when global trade appears to be on a downturn.

North Korea's Defense Minister, General Kang Sun-nam, warned that nuclear war is unavoidable, urging the US to end its "hostile" policy if it wants dialogue. In a statement at the Moscow International Security Conference, he said the world is a step away from nuclear conflict.

Kang blamed Washington's desire for regime change and increased military presence in the region for escalating tensions. He pointed to recent deployments of nuclear-capable aircraft and a submarine to the area by the US.

"The question isn't whether a nuclear war will break out on the Korean Peninsula, but who will initiate it and when," Kang stated. He criticized the US for its long-standing hostile policy against North Korea, pushing North-Eastern Asia to the brink of nuclear war.

Kang dismissed the willingness of the US and its allies to negotiate as "empty echoes" and insisted that military force remains the only way to secure peace on the Korean Peninsula.

He also warned that the US could easily redeploy its military to the peninsula, emphasizing that the US's aggressive intent to strip North Korea of nuclear weapons is unchangeable.

These statements came after North Korean leader Kim Jong-un ordered increased war preparations, highlighting the increasing tensions in the region ahead of a major joint military exercise by the US and South Korea.
