NASA is returning to the Moon to stay. The Artemis program is our plan to send humans to the Moon by 2024, and to establish a sustainable presence there for the long term.

The Artemis program includes four main components:

The Space Launch System (SLS) is a new rocket that is much more powerful than the Saturn V rocket that was used for the Apollo missions. The SLS will be able to send humans and cargo to the Moon and beyond.
The Orion spacecraft is the crew capsule that will carry astronauts to the Moon. Orion is designed to withstand the harsh conditions of space travel, and it has a life support system that will keep astronauts alive for up to 21 days.
The Human Landing System (HLS) is the vehicle that will land astronauts on the Moon. NASA is currently working with two companies, SpaceX and Dynetics, to develop HLS vehicles.
The Gateway is a small space station that will orbit the Moon. The Gateway will serve as a staging ground for missions to the Moon, and it will also provide a place for astronauts to live and work
