Ronald F Owens Jr Asks Adults to Defend California’s Children

On August 14, 2023 I was one of 11 people who was asked to speak at an AB 1078 Freedom Angels press conference, which was held at the northwest area of California’s state capitol.

AB 1078, authored by Democrat Dr. Corey Jackson, would remove local power from school boards regarding books and curriculum and gives it to the state. Freedom Angels, a human rights organization, hosted the grassroots lobby day.

This is what I said.

“Hello, my name is Ronald Owens, R_o_n_a_l_d O_w_e_n_s.

“I am not a father, but I have a father's heart. I’m an uncle, I’m a great uncle, but most importantly, I have a father's heart.

“When I learned earlier this year that the Elk Grove Unified School District shelves pornographic material in school library books. I did what any father, any mother, any uncle, any aunt, you, members of the press, would do, I spoke up for children.

“There are pictures showing children having oral sex in school library books! There are pictures displaying sexually suggestive objects printed in school library books! There are depictions of two boys having anal sex, where —in school library books! There are illustrations of boys having a masturbation contest in school library books! There are sexually derogatory comments in school library books! There’s information about children massaging, about children fondling, about children stroking each other in school library books!

“Thousands of people in this state are serving time in federal prisons, state institutions and county jails for breaking California Penal Code 311.11 paragraph A.

“What is that law? This law ‘prohibits a person from knowingly possessing obscene materials depicting a person under the age of 18 years old engaging in or simulating sexual conduct.’

“People are arrested, tried, sentenced, incarcerated and after release they have to register as sexual [intended to say sex] offenders for the same pornographic material that is shelved at school libraries in Elk Grove and throughout this state.

“I stand here today and ask adults, ask moms, dads, uncles, aunts, grandparents —throughout this state to stand with us, to rise up, to speak up and defend the innocence of children.

“Thank you.”
