On March 11, one of the most active volcanos in Indonesia, the Merapi volcano has erupted again.

Located at the intersection of two tectonic plates, in Central Java, Indonesia, Mount Merapi has erupted regularly since the mid-16th century. It stands at a height of 2,930 meters and is located just 28 kilometers north of the city of Yogyakarta.

The name "Merapi" translates to "Mountain of Fire" in the Javanese language, and it's a fitting description for this Devastating natural phenomenon.

Over the years, Mount Merapi has caused significant damage and loss of life in the surrounding areas. It’s most devastating eruption occurred in 2010, which killed over 350 people and displaced hundreds of thousands. Since then, the volcano has erupted several times, but thanks to early warning systems and evacuation protocols, loss of life has been kept to a minimum.

Despite the dangers posed by the volcano, Mount Merapi is also a popular tourist destination. Visitors can hike up the mountain and witness its majestic beauty up close. The Merapi Volcano Museum is another popular attraction, where visitors can learn about the volcano's history and geology.
