Distance from Earth To Mars

The distance between Earth and Mars is not constant due to their elliptical orbits around the Sun. On average, Mars is about 225 million kilometers (140 million miles) away from Earth. However, this distance can vary greatly depending on their positions in their respective orbits. At their closest approach, known as "opposition," Mars can come as close as about 54.6 million kilometers (33.9 million miles) to Earth. At its farthest point, called "conjunction," the distance can extend to over 401 million kilometers (249 million miles). The varying distances play a significant role in mission planning and travel times for spacecraft traveling between the two planets.
