Revolution to Evolution of Moon

From year to year, the moon never seems to change. Craters and other formations appear to be permanent now, but the moon didn't always look like this. Thanks to NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, we now have a better look at some of the moon's history. The lunar highlands appeared much as they do now, solid grayish rock. But what we now see as the lunar “seas” were then true seas of molten rock: huge volcanic fountains in some places, hot glowing lava in others, some areas of cooling, dark basaltic rock starting to form where the earliest eruptions had taken place.
