Why Are Democratic Nations Funding 'Disinformation' Departments?

New Zealand's 'Disinformation Project' are a very bizarre group of four people who claim ability to diagnose "disinformation disorders". They have no medical background and very restricted qualifications, yet in a nation who were told there should be "a single source of truth", apparently they own this truth?

As politician Winston Peters says here, their role is to shut down freedom of speech and on the issue of Covid, they did so against leading doctors trying to warn the public.
