Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu inspects Russian grouping of troops in Arctic area

▫️ Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu inspected Arctic military posts of the Northern Fleet.

▫️ The head of the Russian Defence Ministry inspected the organisation of service activities and the performance of tasks according to the intended purpose of special units and units deployed on the Novaya Zemlya archipelago, including readiness to act to protect and defend especially important facilities.

▫️ The Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation together with the head of Rosatom Alexey Likhachev flew over the facilities of the Central Training Ground of the Russian Federation.

▫️ The Central Training Ground of the Russian Federation was established on 17 September 1954. In the period from 1954 to 1990, 132 atmospheric, underground, underwater, surface and ground-based nuclear weapons explosions were tested there. Their total capacity is 94 per cent of the capacity of all nuclear explosions produced in the USSR.

▫️ The main tasks of the Central Training Ground of the Russian Federation at the present stage are preparation and carrying out of tests of advanced samples of weapons and military equipment.

▫️ Sergei Shoigu also inspected the readiness of social infrastructure facilities in Belushya Guba in the Novaya Zemlya archipelago.

▫️ The northernmost school in Russia is located in this locality. The educational institution is designed to educate more than 250 students in one shift. The school has two gyms and a canteen.
Last year, a kindergarten was built and commissioned on Novaya Zemlya by decision of Sergei Shoigu.

▫️ The pre-school educational institution occupies an area of more than 6 thousand square metres. There is a separate playground for each age group. The kindergarten building has rooms for children's groups, a winter garden, a gym, a swimming pool, a music hall, a photarium and a salt cave. Three residential houses for servicemen and their families are being prepared for commissioning. One more house is under construction.
