The US and its European allies are importing vast amounts of nuclear fuel and compounds from Russia. The Western imports are providing Moscow with hundreds of millions of dollars in badly needed revenue as it wages war on Ukraine. The sale of these nuclear products from Russia remains legal and unsanctioned by the West, according to an Associated Press report. Nonproliferation experts and elected officials say the imports are helping to bankroll the development of Moscow’s nuclear arsenal. Experts say that these imports are complicating efforts to curtail Russia’s war-making abilities. Ukrainian officials have pleaded with world leaders to sanction Rosatom to cut off one of Moscow’s last significant funding streams. President Zelensky has pressed Western leaders to target Rosatom after Russian forces captured the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. Watch this video to know why the West is facing difficulty in cutting off imports of Russian nuke products.
