Sermon by Matt Trewhella on 10/6/2002

[Note: wherever George Bush is mentioned, just substitute with Barack Obama or Jeb, or Rubio, or Christie]. Though preached fifteen years ago, still stunningly appropriate for our present hour. This sermon repudiates the military draft, and spends a lengthy time taking to task the idea of women also being drafted, as the last legislation proposed to re-instate the draft would have set into law.

Governments should have to convince their citizenry that the war they want to fight is just. We should fight voluntarily, not through the coercive arm of the State via the draft. A tyrant State forces their citizenry to fight through the coercive arm of the State, rather than convince them of the justness of the cause so that their citizenry fights voluntarily.

Great quotes from John Knox and Herbert Schlossberg in the sermon, as well as an exhortation to young men to use their lives in service to Christ, rather than fighting for the humanistic, Christ-hating empire the American government is propagating around the earth.

Malachi 4:6; Romans 13
