During fasting, liver charged with providing fuel...
-every part of body joins in the fast,
-except the brain
-liver takes fatty acids from fat cells,
converts them into ketones [for brain]
-takes glycerol from triglycerides & aminos from muscle
-thru gluconeogenesis makes glucose [from fat & protein]
-also for brain [needs some glucose]

Breaking the fast with a sweet potato...
-when liver is insulin senstive,
-takes in glucose that is not immediately needed by muscle
WHEN EATING, liver shuts down hepatic glucose output
If eating standard American diet: glucose OVERLOAD
-so need a whole lot of insulin to bring glucose in
If normal [not insulin resistant] will:
- convert some glucose into glycogen
-shut down glucose output
-converts rest into fat [=carbs signal fat production]
