Why Incompetent People Think They're Amazing

In this video, we talk about why incompetent people think they're amazing, and how you can avoid falling into this trap yourself. This is actually known as the Dunning-Kruger effect, a cognitive bias in which people of low ability have illusory superiority, mistakenly assessing their cognitive ability as greater than it is. David Dunning and Justin Kruger are the social psychologists who discovered this phenomenon.

They found that when someone lacks knowledge, experience, or expertise in a specific area, they may not be aware of the extent of their own incompetence. As a result, they may overestimate their abilities because they do not have the necessary skills to recognize their own flaws.

What's more, incompetent people don't realize that other people don't share their high opinion of themselves. In fact, they are often surprised or offended when others laugh at them or say they're wrong! That’s why it's important to recognize when you're not good at something and work on getting better instead of getting trapped in the Dunning-Kruger effect.
