--- Fair History
In 1845, the citizens of Columbiana County, Ohio, gathered to establish the Columbiana County Agricultural Society with the aim of promoting scientific farming practices. The first fair was held on vacant land in Lisbon in 1853, after the Society purchased the current fairgrounds. The fair featured competitions and premiums for various categories, including farm implements, quilts, and women's riding habits.
Over the years, the fairgrounds expanded through land acquisitions, and numerous structures and improvements were added, such as new barns, stages, and exhibition buildings. The historic wooden grandstand, present since the early days, was replaced in 2014 with the metal one they have now. The fair also became home to a historic bow truss steel arch bridge, which was restored and became an iconic symbol of the fairgrounds that you may have seen me walk through on past streams.
Throughout its history, the fair offered unique entertainment, including ostrich races, combine demolition derbies, circuses, hot air balloon exhibitions, musical performances, tractor and truck pulling contests, and auto demolition derbies. The fair's traditions have been preserved by the Board of Directors of the Columbiana County Agricultural Society, with a continuous focus on progress and improvement.
Over the years, the Fair has hosted an impressive lineup of famous performers who have graced its stages, delighting audiences with their talent and charisma. Renowned musical artists such as Tanya Tucker, Dolly Parton, Porter Waggoner, Tex Ritter, Lorrie Morgan, and Jake Owen have entertained fairgoers with their captivating performances. These stars brought their country music flair and showmanship to the fairgrounds, leaving a lasting impression on both locals and visitors alike. Their unforgettable concerts added to the fair's rich history and legacy.
