To say that 1995's Batman Forever was a departure for the franchise is a massive understatement. Director Joel Schumacher's candy-colored comic book was a far cry from Tim Burton's gothic depiction of the Caped Crusader, complete with a new actor underneath the cowl, with Val Kilmer replacing Michael Keaton. While it certainly paved the way for the abysmal Batman & Robin, people forget that Batman Forever was a critical and commercial success (even with nipples on the batsuit).
