English Premier League outfit Arsenal unveiled a statue of former manager Arsene Wenger at their home in north London on Friday.

The club said it marked Wenger's "truly remarkable contribution" to The Gunners over his 22-year tenure between October 1996 and May 2018.

He led Arsenal to three Premier League titles, including going an entire season unbeaten, seven FA Cup victories and 20 successive years in the UEFA Champions League.

Wenger's influence stretched far beyond the confines of the pitch. He was instrumental in the design and building of the club's London Colney training centre and also played a key role in many of the design elements in the move from Highbury to Emirates Stadium in 2006.

The statue is already in place at the Emirates, fixed into position outside the North Bank stand.

Made of bronze, the statue was created by award-winning sculptor Jim Guy, stands 3.5 metres high and weighs approximately half a tonne.

It depicts Wenger lifting the Premier League trophy, which he did for real in 1998, 2002 and 2004.

1998 and 2002 were also 'double' seasons.

In a statement, current manager Mikel Arteta said: "It's such a great tribute that the club has done something special for Arsene that he fully deserves and merits. With a statue now at the stadium, Arsene can have that recognition and be here at our club forever. I'm so grateful to have played for Arsene at this club in my career. He chose me to be one of his players and selected me to be the captain of the club and that's something I will never forget."

The tribute to Wenger now brings the number of statues around the stadium to six.

The others depict Tony Adams, Dennis Bergkamp and Thierry Henry, who all played under Wenger, plus the legendary manager from the 1930s Herbert Chapman and former board member and managing director Ken Friar.
