The Fireman (1916) Charlie Chaplin
Charlie is a clumsy fireman, he's a nightmare for his teammates and especially his foreman. The foreman is visited by a distinguished gentleman who proposes him to marry his daughter, as long as he does not intervene during the fire of a house for which he wants to collect insurance. During the organized fire, another one breaks out in a different part of the city and the firemen don't immediately react to run and do their job, as they were instructed to ignore it. Meanwhile the distinguished gentleman, who set fire to his home, does not know that his daughter is still in the house so he runs to call the firemen. Charlie then leaves the site of the first fire and rushes to rescue the girl, and brings her to safety. She liked him before, but now she is very grateful and he wins her affection.
