Pitru Paksha: How to Invoke the Presence of Your Ancestors and Seek Their Guidance

Pitru Paksha is a time to invoke the presence of your ancestors and seek their guidance for your life. There are different ways to communicate with your ancestors, depending on your culture, tradition and preference. Some common methods are:

Creating an altar or a sacred space for your ancestors. You can place their photos, idols, symbols, personal belongings, flowers, incense, candles, crystals, food and water on the altar. You can also write a letter or a card to your ancestors and place it on the altar. This is a way of honoring and inviting your ancestors to your home.

Offering tarpanam or water mixed with black sesame seeds to your ancestors. This is a way of expressing gratitude and respect to your ancestors and helping them to attain peace and liberation. You can also offer pindas or rice balls mixed with milk, honey and gangajal to your ancestors. This is a way of feeding and satisfying your ancestors.

Praying and meditating with your ancestors. You can chant their names, gotras, mantras or prayers to invoke their presence. You can also sing or play music that is meaningful or soothing to your ancestors. You can ask your ancestors for their blessings, guidance, protection and healing. You can also share your joys, sorrows, hopes and fears with your ancestors.

Performing a ceremony or a ritual with your ancestors. You can follow the traditional steps of Pitru Paksha Puja and Shradh Rituals as described in my previous message. You can also create your own ceremony or ritual that is meaningful and respectful to your ancestors. You can invite a priest, a shaman, a healer or a friend to assist you in the ceremony or ritual.

Listening and learning from your ancestors. You can pay attention to the signs, symbols, dreams, visions, messages, synchronicities and coincidences that your ancestors may use to communicate with you. You can also use tools such as oracle cards, pendulums, runes or crystals to receive guidance from your ancestors. You can also consult a psychic, a medium, a channeler or a past-life regressionist to connect with your ancestors.
