Unsafe Pass Causes Rollover Accident, PROVIDENCE, August 3, 2023 - At approximately 9:55 am on August 3, 2023, a tan 2015 Toyota Tacoma, driven by Sharon Taylor, 73, of Fairfield, was south-bound on US-146. Taylor decided to pass an 18 wheeler driven by Arthur Gunn, 77, of Shepherd, that was directly in front of her (in a no passing zone). As Taylor was passing, an oncoming north-bound vehicle forced her to move back into the south-bound lane in front of the 18 wheeler that she was passing, but she cut it too close and clipped the front driver's side bumper of the 18 wheeler. The impact caused Taylor to leave the pavement to the right and roll. Taylor's pickup rolled and crashed through a wooden fence at Escapees RV Club, slammed into a motor home, bounced off the motor home and came to rest against a travel trailer (both in Escapees Club). Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department, Deputy Justin Murdock with the Polk County Sheriff's Office, and Troopers Corporal Ramey Bass and Cotye Lowrie with the Texas Highway Patrol. Taylor and her passenger were helped from their vehicle and helped to a seat inside Escapees. Gunn was uninjured. Both Taylor and her passenger were transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Traffic on 146 was not blocked during investigation and cleanup. Taylor's vehicle was recovered by Dan's Towing and will be stored in Livingston, the 18 wheeler was driven from the scene. Taylor is likely facing a citation for the unsafe pass.
