GOP Senators Demand FERC Investigation
Senate Republicans are urging the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to examine the potential risks of President Biden's stringent restrictions on fossil fuel power plants. Senators John Barrasso and Shelley Moore Capito expressed concerns about the impact of these regulations on electric grid reliability. In a letter to FERC, they called for urgent discussions and technical conferences to evaluate the effects of the Clean Power Plan 2.0. The EPA's rules aim to reduce carbon pollution, but industry groups and experts fear the premature retirement of reliable power sources and potential power supply shortfalls. FERC Commissioner James Danly and other commissioners have also warned about a looming reliability crisis. The senators highlight the need for a thorough examination by FERC to safeguard the integrity of America's power supply systems.
