Smash burgers with bacon jam
Smash burgers with bacon jam are absolutely delicious! The combination of a juicy, smashed beef patty and the rich, sweet-savory bacon jam is a flavor explosion. Here's a general recipe to help you make your own smash burgers with bacon jam:
Ingredients:
For the bacon jam:
- 8 slices of bacon, chopped
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup brewed coffee
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the smash burgers:
- 1.5 pounds ground beef (80% lean, 20% fat is recommended)
- Salt and pepper to season
- Sliced cheese (optional)
- Burger buns
- Lettuce, tomato, onions, or any other desired toppings
Instructions:
1. Start by making the bacon jam. In a large skillet, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon from the pan, leaving the rendered fat.
2. In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and garlic. Cook until the onion becomes translucent and slightly caramelized.
3. Add the cooked bacon back into the skillet with the onions and garlic. Stir in the brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, coffee, and maple syrup. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
4. Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for about 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens and becomes jam-like in consistency. Remove from heat and set aside.
5. Preheat a griddle or large skillet over medium-high heat.
6. Divide the ground beef into equal portions, about 1/4 pound each. Roll each portion into a ball and season with salt and pepper.
7. Place a ball of ground beef onto the hot griddle or skillet. Use a spatula to firmly press down on the beef patty, flattening it into a thin patty. This smashing technique helps create a crispy exterior.
8. Cook the patty for about 2-3 minutes until the bottom side is browned and crispy. Flip the patty and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.
9. If desired, place a slice of cheese on top of the patty during the last minute of cooking to allow it to melt.
10. Remove the patty from the griddle or skillet and repeat the process with the remaining portions of ground beef.
11. Assemble your smash burgers by placing each patty on a bun. Top with a generous amount of bacon jam and any other desired toppings like lettuce, tomato, or onions.
12. Serve the smash burgers immediately while they're still hot and enjoy!
Feel free to customize your burgers with additional condiments and toppings according to your preferences. These smash burgers with bacon jam are sure to be a crowd-pleaser and a deliciously indulgent treat!
