Russia Strikes Ukraine Port Near Romania, Erdogan Warns Putin On War Escalation In Grain Deal Talks

Ukraine said a Russian overnight strike against Odesa Oblast targeted the Danube River port of Izmail, close to NATO member Romania. Almost 40,000 tonnes of grain were damaged, Minister Oleksandr Kubrakov said, adding warehouses and grain elevators were hit. Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart on August 2. The Kremlin said Putin told Erdogan Moscow is ready to return to the Black Sea grain deal if the West meets its obligations. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said Ukraine’s terrorist methods aggravate the Ukrainian crisis and delay a peace settlement. Russian security service FSB detained a Tambov Region resident who planned to travel to Ukraine via Turkey to join the Ukrainian armed forces.
