Savile is returning to haunt Keir Starmer.

There's no shortage of examples of Keir Starmer's awfulness, but the equally awful right wing press are back with Savile.
Right, so the next General Election might only be as little as 9 months away, more likely it’ll be nearer 18 months as Rishi Sunak is running scared of it, but that doesn’t mean the first vestiges of how dirty a campaign it is going to be are coming out, not least because of Keir Starmer’s attack ads during the local election campaign, painting Rishi Sunak as someone personally soft on things such as child abuse, truly gutter politics, because for as much as you can accuse Sunak of all manner of terribleness and horror, you don’t need to scrape through the bottom of the barrel like that. When I covered those stories back in May I warned at the time that this would be a sign of things to come, that such debased and dirty politics would be revisited upon Starmer in turn and perhaps we’re starting to see a bit more of that. It’s noticeable how the media and the Tories have in recent weeks all of a sudden started talking more about this issue of trust with Starmer, about the litany of broken promises and the lies he’s told and we knew this would come, but one story the right wing toxic rags have run on Starmer this last week is one that’s going to cause him ongoing problems and it’s especially notable because it marks a bit of a change in tone of the tactics the Tories are going to use going forwards towards that election. Now, if we go back a moment to when Boris Johnson was still PM, we remember him being warned not to bring up Jimmy Savile as a weapon against Keir Starmer. Now we’re going back well over a year here to when this was raised by Johnson one PMQ’s, January of last year as it was, where he bellowed at Starmer in regards to his tenure as Director of Public Prosecutions, I can’t imagine anyone doesn’t know at this point that Starmer was indeed DPP at the CPS, Crown Prosecution Service, I think he probably mutters it in his sleep he’s told us so often, but Johnson sneered across the dispatch box that Starmer spent most of his time prosecuting journalists whilst at the CPS and failing to prosecute Jimmy Savile. Now Johnson was warned not to go here, because Starmer as DPP was not directly involved in that investigation, he said he stood by it based on the evidence available at that time, it was widely known that Starmer wasn’t involved personally, despite being in charge of the CPS at the time. Now I think if this had been Corbyn for example and not Starmer, they’d have gone for it on steroids, Sir Kid Starver being establishment friendly however, not the done thing. Johnson lost his head of policy over this, gained nothing.
