GOD SEEMS SO CRUEL! / Pastor Bob's Coffee Break

Dear Pastor Bob: I love your YouTube channel which I just discovered last week. Thank you for the work you’re doing. I have a question for you that I’ve been struggling with for most of my life. Although I’ve been a believer in Jesus since I was a young child, I’ve always had great difficulty believing in God’s goodness. I know God has blessed me in many ways throughout my life but I can’t seem to stop this belief that God is somewhat cruel since He allowed sin and suffering into His creation. I always wonder why He wrote so much evil into His story since He’s so opposed to it and could have prevented it. I also can’t let go of the belief that Hell is unjust and cruel. The punishment of eternal torment for temporal sins doesn’t seem fair no matter how hard I try to rationalize it. These beliefs which I can’t seem to change cause me to doubt my salvation because I wonder if they mean I’ve not fully repented. But can any human ever FULLY repent 100%? I always have and continue to confess my sins every day, and I always acknowledge that Jesus died for my sins yet I still harbor a strong resentment towards God deep down in a dark corner my sinful heart. I’ve prayed for years for God to remove these beliefs but they have only grown stronger over time. I’ve received much pastoral counseling for this over decades yet I can’t seem to defeat these beliefs. The past five years have been extraordinarily difficult for me and my family which have caused me to become extremely angry with God, and His prolonged silence makes me feel abandoned by Him. Most of my life I’ve battled a crippling depression that has wreaked havoc on myself and also on my family. I can honestly say that I don’t know one believer who shares these dark feelings with me, and that makes me feel completely hopeless and isolated. I feel buried under a million heavy boulders and have lost sight of God. My faith has hit rock bottom.
