Squash bugs look gray with square wings and will lay copper eggs on the back of squash and pumpkin leaves. Squish the squash bugs and eggs.

Vine borers look like a moth-wasp hybrid that flies during the day. They lay eggs at the base of squash plants and tunnel out as caterpillars. Treat these by pouring a bowl of soapy water on the base of the plants.

Bees and butterflies are beneficial to your garden. Do not harm them or you will not get a crop.

Slugs can of course be killed with salt but it’s really cruel. We prefer to relocate them using a cup.
