The ANABOLIC WINDOW!?

I used to make myself feel sick choking down protein shakes post workout because I thought I needed to get that protein in IMMEDIATELY otherwise I wouldn't make gains. Turns out, this isn’t right. There is little to no evidence showing that protein timing has any affect on your ability to build muscle. Of course, there are some small caveats to that and minor examples where it seems to have some effect. But, overall, what I keep seeing over and over again in the studies is that overall protein intake can play a significant role but the timing of that protein ingestion just doesn’t seem to matter that much. If you’re someone who enjoys having a protein shake or high protein meal post workout - just keep doing your thing, it’s not hurting you and MIGHT provide some small benefit. BUT, if you are going out of your way to get that protein in or chugging down shakes and making yourself nauseous, then I highly recommend easing off a tad….I did this….for years….NOT WORTH IT.
