Sydney Swans coach John Longmire has paid a touching tribute to star AFL forward Lance 'Buddy' Franklin after he retired from the sport effective immediately, following a calf injury sustained in the side's victory over the Essendon Bombers. Franklin will go down in the history books as one of the greatest Aussie rules champions. He scored 1,066 goals over 356 games with Sydney and the Hawthorn Hawks, secured two Premierships with the Hawks in 2018 and 2013, was named the Coleman Medallist as the AFL's leading goalkicker on four occasions, and has eight All-Australian selections to his name.
