What is a Dwarf Morning Glory?
Dwarf Morning Glory, scientifically known as Convolvulus tricolor, is a popular annual flowering plant native to the Mediterranean region. Its common name is derived from its compact, low-growing habit, typically reaching only about a foot in height, and its showy, trumpet-shaped flowers that are reminiscent of the larger morning glory species.
Dwarf Morning Glory is a species in the Convolvulaceae family. The flowers come in a variety of colors, including blue, pink, and white, and they are typically characterized by a vibrant, contrasting "star" pattern in their center. Like their larger relatives, the blooms of the Dwarf Morning Glory usually open in the morning and close in the evening.
The plant is widely cultivated in gardens for its stunning flowers and its ease of growth. It prefers well-drained soils and full sun, making it a great choice for rock gardens, borders, and containers. Despite its beauty, Dwarf Morning Glory is relatively short-lived, with the flowers usually lasting for just one day. However, the plant produces new blooms in quick succession, so there's almost always color to enjoy throughout the growing season.
