In the tranquil Iya Valley, you'll come across numerous serene little villages, yet none are quite as peculiar or serene as Nagoro. As you journey through this strange village known as scarecrow village. you'll observe a peculiar phenomenon: the absence of waving from its inhabitants, who remain utterly motionless. The reason behind this unusual sight becomes clear - the figures standing in place are actually scarecrows. More than 200 of these carefully positioned scarecrows adorn the village, each depicting lifelike scenarios. Scarecrows can be seen diligently tending to farms, repairing telephone lines, patiently waiting for the bus, engaging in silent conversations with one another, and the list goes on. The delightful challenge for visitors is to explore the village, endeavoring to spot as many scarecrows as possible, all while avoiding the risk of becoming one themselves.

Ms. Tsukimi Ayano, affectionately known as the 'Scarecrow Mother,' hails from Nagoro village but had relocated elsewhere. Upon returning to her birthplace in 2002, she discovered that the majority of the residents had migrated to urban areas in search of employment, leaving her once vibrant community feeling desolate and empty a ghost town. Everyone disappeared.

Ms. Ayano crafted her initial scarecrow in the likeness of her father, utilizing it to safeguard the fields from pesky crows. She soon noticed that the neighboring villagers would cordially greet the scarecrow, which inspired her to create more. Over time, her efforts resulted in an abundance of scarecrows that now populate the village, each one contributing to its unique ambiance.
