YMCA of Collier County Presents: YMCA Summer Theater Camp
Director’s Notes:
I chose this play due to the familiarity of the fairy tale characters, although I must say every year it gets tougher and I’m losing the battle to anime characters with which I’m totally unfamiliar!! That’s my hint, start having them read the classics!! Stay away from Grimm Brothers for the younger set (gruesome); however, it may entice the middle schoolers (haha).
The week is a combination of theater activities and rehearsals. Don’t ask how we manage to do it, but it seems to work every year. Seriously it is the work of our actors and their commitment to the performance. The key to success is that they are having fun and we take the pressure off them. From time to time, you may hear me feed a line, just ignore me. My job is to let them know I will be right there by their side during the play, even if it is from the front row.
Again, I can’t express how much joy I get from the program, there is certainly a place for every actor based on their ability and most importantly their comfort zone. Enjoy the moment as I have each and every day. Don’t forget the fun continues with YMCA Theatrics. We have two eight sessions; fall and spring. You should be able to sign up currently for the fall.
