Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday called a planned judicial overhaul “a minor correction” and said the decision to limit the Supreme Court’s powers to overrule government actions would not hurt Israel’s democracy.

“It’s a minor correction. It’s described as the end of Israeli democracy. I think that’s silly and when the dust settles, everybody will see that,” he said.

Netanyahu made the comments during an interview with ABC News on Thursday.

Netanyahu claimed that many opposition leaders had initially supported the reform but changed their stance for “political reasons.”

He said he understands the concerns of Israelis and had paused the reforms to work with opposition leaders on a compromise but had decided to move forward with the plan when he didn’t “get anything from the opposition.”
