MUMS (CHRYSANTHEMUM): These stunning fall flowers will feed late-season pollinator insects

Chrysanthemums, mums, are herbaceous perennials with showy flowers. They come in many shapes and sizes. They can be single, semi-double, or fully double, with white, yellow, pink, red, bronze, and lavender petals, with dark green leaves.

Generally, chrysanthemums are hardy in USDA zones 5 to 9. Some might be more cold-tolerant, thriving in zones 3 and 4. Others may be more heat-tolerant and grow in zones 9 and 10. So check the recommended growing zones for the particular chrysanthemum you want to grow.

They thrive in full sun, with 6 hours of direct daily sunlight. However, in regions with intense heat, providing some afternoon shade can help protect the plants from scorching.

Mums have moderate water needs but need well-draining soil. A layer of mulch around the plants can help.
