J. Robert Oppenheimer was an American theoretical physicist and director of the Manhattan Project's Los Alamos Laboratory during World War II.

He is often credited as the "father of the atomic bomb." Oppenheimer was born on April 22, 1904, in New York City to Jewish immigrants from Germany.

He earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Harvard University in 1925 and a PhD in physics from the University of Göttingen in Germany in 1927.

Oppenheimer grew up in a Manhattan apartment adorned with paintings by van Gogh, Cézanne, and Gauguin.

Richard Rhodes's 1986 book, The Making of the Atomic Bomb, is widely regarded as the definitive account of the Manhattan Project.

Christopher Nolan's film 'Oppenheimer' portrays Oppenheimer as a mathematical puzzle to be solved.0 Critics have criticized the portrayal of Oppenheimer as a hand-wringing neurotic.

Only 30 theaters in the world are showing 'Oppenheimer' in IMAX 70MM, the way Christopher Nolan intended people to see it.
