In this video the Ol' Man, a lifelong biker an Harley-Davidson fan, discusses his thoughts on which direction he thinks Harley-Davidson should be taking, and where he considers they have made mistakes recently.
We all know and love Harley-Davidson for the cruisers, baggers, touring bikes, old sportsters etc, but there have been a number of flops and failures in recent years, including the Street 750, FXDR 114, and the new Sportster S And Nightster aren't appealing to the traditional brand loyal customers either. Are these new Sportsters going to get new blood onboard? Or are they headed for the chop too? What do you think?
Thanks to @KaplanCycles for the screenshots I nicked! Check them out! They are one of the best motorbike channels on the planet! Harley-Davidson MX250 and Harley-Davidson Aermacchi 350 and Harley Monkey from the 1970's!
The Pan America is doing well but do Harley riders want revvy engines? We discuss all this in detail and offer our thoughts for the right direction Harley-Davidson should be heading.
The Livewire was a bit of a flop, but we think Harley got it wrong by introducing a 'Sports Bike' rather than an Electric Cruiser! Imagine a Street Bob Electric!
The Ol' Man certainly would like to see electric motorcycles with classic styling, and the future doesn't have to look like a plastic Transformer!
We also brush on the subject of carbon emissions and EU emissions regulations and how the government are only seeing part of the picture, ignoring the carbon footprint of production and resource extraction etc. Have a look at this great video on the subject from Ted Talks - The Contradiction of Battery Operated Vehicles - https://youtu.be/S1E8SQde5rk It may surprise you! Then consider the comparison against a motorcycle!
Harley are said to be manufacturing motorcycles in partnership with Hero, but is this going to be the motorbikes we really need or some cheap, ugly alternative?
