Cyrus West Field (The Father of the Transatlantic Cable) was an American business and financier who firstly realized that trade would improve if American and Europe could be connected by a Telegraph System that insisted him along with other entrepreneurs in creating The Atlantic Telegraph Company and laid the first telegraph cable across the Atlantic Ocean.
The massive ship called the Great Eastern set sail from Valentia, Ireland at Heart's Content, Newfoundland, carrying the transatlantic cable. After some difficulties, the cable was successfully laid, and on July 27, 1866, the old and new worlds were permanently connected through telegraphic communication. This permanent electrical communications link between the old and the new was an incomparable milestone in modern history.
Before this landmark, there were multiple attempts over twelve years to lay the cable, but they all faced setbacks. Over the years, more cables were added, further improving the communication link. The Heart's Content Cable Station became a crucial hub for transatlantic communication until its closure in 1965.
