There is nothing more tragic then someone who is a victim of themselves

Today Chris does the intro, what do you all think?

We are discussing Maria from The Streets of Laredo, the second book to be released but the last in the series.

Maria really is the quintessential McMurtry character; there is such depth to her. It’s interesting to try to understand the division between self and community, what happens when our families become an issue for the community. Do we owe it to anyone others than ourselves to “figure ourselves out”? Is Call a representation for the struggle of man and Maria the internal struggle for woman?

Do you think Maria is a hero? Do you like her character? What do you think of her as a mother and a community members?
