Who was Dmitri Shakh-Bagov (1893-1920?) and why was he so close to Grand Duchess Olga Romanov (1895-1918)? This patriotic Russian soldier moved up steadily through the Russian imperial army, commanding two battalions in his early twenties. Wounded during World War I, Dmitri "Mitya" grew very fond of Sister Olga during his stay at the Tsarskoe Selo infirmary. He appears in phone calls and letters across Olga's diaries starting in 1915. Did Mitya travel to Petrograd in April 1918 to try to assassinate Lenin? Was he one of the last holdouts against the Red Army's march across the Caucasus? Learn more about this incredibly brave man and his earned love from Grand Duchess Olga Romanov.
