WHERE THE SPIRIT DWELLS

The scientists flex their god complex
Think they know more than they do
They must unlearn what they’ve learnt
And remember two plus two

And we must unlearn what we’ve learnt
Forget what we have seen
For the eyes play tricks on the mind
And the mind itself deceives

Though the spirit dwells in the heart
In the rivers and the streams
And sails along the wayward path
Of a sailor’s drunken dream

The lonely poet chokes
On alphabet soup
Word salads and pretty ballads
For the love that flew the coop

The holy fool plays the fool
In the court of public opinion
Like a cackling bird above the herd
Under the sky’s dominion

Where the spirit dwells in the heart
In the hills and the valleys
And shadows the broken path
Of a squatter in the alley

The spirit dwells in the heart
And lights a sacred path
For the fallen man and woman
For the child who believes
