Complete Church Service for Sunday, July 23, 2023. Legalism is defined as "the rigorous and ruthless adherence to the word of the law, usually combined with a policy to regulate as much as possible." In the biblical context, a legalist is someone who rabidly focused on the observance of the law and their interpretation of it rather than a relationship with God. In the text we have before us this morning, the Lord Jesus Christ corrects a group of Jewish legalists who have allowed their legalism to blind them to the presence of the Messiah. Through Jesus' correction we have the dangers of legalism exposed.
