The riverbed of The Strid consists of large, steep slabs of rock with deep channels of fast flowing water in between. Anyone who falls into these channels is pulled deep underwater, battered against the rocks, and often unable to escape due to the powerful current and slippery rock surfaces. The turbulent water forms whirlpools that can trap and drown victims.
