FORT BUCHANAN, Puerto Rico- Sgt. 1st Class Nicholas Rice, ArmyReserve/H2F system manager, interviewed Carlos Evans, a former Marine Sergeant and native of Puerto Rico, about spirituality. The Holistic Health and Fitness initiative, created by U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command’s Center for Initial Military Training, focuses on a new approach to training Soldiers. H2F follows five domains of readiness: mental, spiritual, physical, nutritional, and sleep. The Army Field Manual 7-22 defines spiritual readiness as “the ability to endure and overcome times of stress, hardship, and tragedy by making meaning of life experiences.” This meaning is drawn from the Soldier’s spiritual dimension, which is influenced by their core beliefs, values, motivation and identity. The spiritual readiness domain is inclusive and applies to both religious and non-religious people regardless of background, philosophy, or religion. Video by Staff Sgt. Katherine Ramos
