Israel can get away with this because of their powerful lobbyists, such as AIPAC, which openly brag that they basically decide who can and cannot hold office in the United States based on their level of allegiance to Israel. Political campaigns not beholden to supporting Israel's interests can not only expect to lose out on millions in campaign donations, but understand that those donations will be given to their opponent to defeat them.
