Once Upon a Time Before Social Media

. Once upon a time, before social media.

We all skated without phones that were high resolution photo and video cameras…. 4k? what’s that?

When there was someone with a camera .. specially if the video camera had either a fisheye or an handle on top.. that meant “ITS GO TIME”..

photos? Forget about the “D” , the SLR’s were not common, and very few (i got lucky sometimes) had the chance to have someone shooting them with a medium format camera… we would put our bodies down the line and completely trust the photographer to shoot it on the right timing…. Then, we would wait a couple months. Sometimes years ..after the film being developed, if the photo turned out really good and if your name was somehow a bit known you would make it in a magazine … maybe.
So a known photographer meant “SUPER GO TIME”…

People talk about this and that pro skater having a not so professional attitude.. well different times, you would not be Pro because you were friendly, you were not Pro because you had a gazilion followers.. you would become Pro because you were able to either win events or shine on the “go times” or both.

I believe pro skaters have always been another marketing tool to create sales and as a skater its sometimes hard to understand..

In 2023, some things are different , some aren’t…

But at the end of the day I would say… JUST SKATE SMARTER, whatever tha means to you.. ;)
