Coronal Holes Weaken & Dust Towers on Mars: Solar Storm Forecast 12-11-2019
This Solar Storm Forecast is sponsored in part by 3ric Johanson: http://instagram.com/scubist
Space weather this week remains on the quiet side, but we are continuing to see a slight boost in the solar flux due to emergence of small bright regions in Earth view. Some of these regions are at high latitudes, which is indicative of the new solar cycle trying to take hold. These regions dont last too long, but their constant presence is enough to boost radio propagation and keep it in the marginal range. This boost is expected to continue throughout this week. In addition, we have a weak coronal hole rotating through the Earth-strike zone, which will bring a weak fast solar wind stream, likely causing aurora at high latitudes. However, it will not be enough to bump us anywhere close to solar storm levels so mid-latitude aurora photographers will just have to sit this one out. GPS users should find this weak storm helps to stabilize the upper atmosphere so their GPS reception should remain pretty robust, even at low latitudes. As always, be careful with GPS reception anywhere near aurora, especially near the dawn-dusk terminators. Learn the details of the coming fast solar wind, see when yet another fast wind stream is coming, and find out what else our Sun has in store!
