A video on social media of two women being paraded naked through the streets by a mob has caused outrage across India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the incident shameful.

According to police the assault happened in Manipur, a state in north-east India, and indigenous leaders said the women were also gang raped.

MPs disrupted parliament's session in Delhi demanding the issue be debated.

India’s chief justice said the supreme court was “deeply disturbed” by the video and warned the government that “we will take action if you don’t”.
