Deputy Defense Department Spokesperson Sabrina Singh said Private 2nd Class Travis King’s duty status is absent without leave (AWOL) as U.S. officials wait for communication from North Korea. King, 23, intentionally fled across the Demilitarized Zone between North and South Korea Tuesday while with a tour group. Singh added no further update on King’s whereabouts or reason for traveling across the border.
