GOP debates impeaching Merrick Garland after McCarthy surprise

House Republicans are currently engaged in a debate over whether to shift their impeachment efforts towards Attorney General Merrick Garland.

This development came after Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) unexpectedly suggested initiating an inquiry against Garland, catching some members off guard.

Previously, much of the Republican Party’s impeachment discussions had focused on other officials in the Biden administration, The Hill reported.

Throughout this year, the GOP has primarily concentrated on potential impeachments of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas or President Biden. McCarthy, in particular, has consistently urged caution and deliberate action within the conference.
