Gov. DeSantis criticizes Trump for Jan. 6 but doubts legitimacy of criminal charges

During a presidential campaign stop in Columbia, South Carolina Tuesday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said former President Donald Trump should have done more during the January 6 Capitol riots. Gov. DeSantis added that despite Trump’s inaction during the 2021 riot, he questioned the validity of bringing criminal charges against him. “For example, I think it was shown how he was in the White House and didn't do anything while things were going on. He should have come out more forcefully, of course,” said Gov. DeSantis. “But to try to criminalize that, that's a different issue entirely."
