Step by Step Blackwork Embroidery of a 16th Century Italian Inspired Flower Pattern

Six years ago, I was inspired by a flower pattern that is on a 16th century Italian sampler at the V&A Museum and embroidered it on to a coif. I modified the flower pattern a bit, to make it more of my own design while still staying true to the 16th century vibe.

Blackwork embroidery is also known as double-running stitch or Holbein stitch. Historically, it was typically found as silk thread embroidered on white linen in a reversible stitch.
