The City State Solution: How to Avoid a Civil War or National Secession in These Dis-United States

Historically, borders have generally been defined by differences in culture and terrain. In the modern age, the most dramatic differences in both culture and terrain are those between the urban and rural. Yet that is not where state borders presently exist.

This video explores the numerous natural and rational reasons why urban and rural areas are so politically divergent; why they will continue to become even more divergent as this century progresses; and if we can alleviate tensions in our currently divided and hostile political climate by allowing the polarized ‘blue’ cities and ‘red’ rural areas to separate, form new states in the union, and govern themselves how they best see fit.

Various concerns and counter arguments will also be addressed, including whether such actions might make things worse and more polarized or bear other unintended consequences, whether such a thing is even feasible, and whether other solutions exist that would make such actions ultimately unnecessary.
